- Every comment-to-DM tool follows Meta's rules: one private reply per commenter within 7 days.
- Inro, LinkDM and CreatorFlow list free plans with monthly DM or contact limits.
- Chatfuel focuses on AI answers across Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.
- Moonya pairs simple comment-to-DM automations with creating and publishing the posts themselves.
- ManyChat remains the better fit for deep, multi-step chat flows.
ManyChat is the name most people know for Instagram DM automation. It is a dedicated chat automation builder, and for complex conversation flows it is hard to beat. But if you mainly want "comment a keyword, get a link in your DMs", or you also need help creating the posts, a simpler or broader tool may suit you better. Here are five alternatives worth comparing in 2026.
What to look for in a ManyChat alternative
- Comment-to-DM basics. Keyword triggers, a choice of all posts or one post, and an optional public reply under the comment.
- Story replies and mentions. Useful if a lot of your conversations start from Stories.
- Monthly limits. Many tools cap automated DMs or contacts per month. Estimate your volume before picking a plan.
- Depth vs simplicity. Do you need branching, multi-step flows and integrations, or a few reliable automations you can set up in minutes?
- Everything around the DM. A DM automation only works if you post content that asks for the comment. Decide whether you also want help with that part.
Meta's rules apply to every tool
All of these tools work within the same Instagram rules. According to Meta's developer documentation on private replies, a business can send only one private reply to the person who commented, within 7 days of the comment (for Live comments, only during the broadcast). The reply lands in their main Inbox if they follow you, or in Requests if they do not. You can continue the conversation only after they respond, within the 24-hour messaging window.
So no tool can send unlimited follow-up messages to commenters. Be wary of any promise that sounds like it goes beyond these rules. For a step-by-step setup, see our Instagram comment-to-DM guide.

1. Moonya: best if you also need the posts
Moonya is a social media autopilot for small businesses. It creates carousels, image posts, Stories and Reels from what its Brand Brain learns about your business, and it runs comment-to-DM automations for Instagram and Facebook.
What it does well: keyword matching (anywhere in the comment or exact), watching all posts or one post, an optional public reply with up to 3 rotating variants, an optional opening message, and an optional follow-up about a day later if the link was not clicked. You see hits, DMs sent and clicks. Private messages and comments also land in a unified inbox.
Best for: owners who want the post that asks for the comment and the DM that answers it in one tool.
Things to consider: ManyChat is a dedicated chat automation builder with deeper flows; Moonya's automations are simpler by design. DM automation limits are 1 on Starter, 10 on Pro and up to 1,000 on Agency, and there is no free plan (see pricing). Compare on Moonya vs ManyChat.
2. Inro: best for Instagram-focused DM automation
Inro is focused on Instagram. Its pricing page lists comment to DM, comment triggers, and Story mentions and replies on the free plan, along with a CRM. The free plan includes 100 contacts activated per month and 3 active automations. Pro starts at EUR 12.99 per month with a 14-day trial.
Best for: Instagram-heavy brands that want campaigns and a contact list around their DMs.
Things to consider: integrations are not on the free plan, and the page connects other platforms through Make and Zapier. Inro does not create your posts, so you would pair it with a scheduler or content tool.
3. LinkDM: best for simple auto-replies at volume
LinkDM keeps things simple. Its pricing page shows a free plan for 1 Instagram account and up to 1,000 DMs per month, with Story auto-reply and Story mention auto-reply. Pro is $19 per month for up to 3 Instagram accounts and up to 25,000 DMs per month.
Best for: creators and shops that run high-volume giveaways or link drops.
Things to consider: the comparison table marks Comment Auto-Reply as a Pro feature, not part of the free plan, so check which features you need on each tier.
4. CreatorFlow: best low-cost option for creators
CreatorFlow's pricing page lists a free forever plan with 1 Instagram account, 500 automated DMs per month, comment-to-DM, Story reply automation and unlimited keyword triggers. Pro is $15/month on monthly billing ($12 on annual) with 5,000 DMs per month per workspace.
Best for: solo creators and small brands that want comment-to-DM with templates and a low price.
Things to consider: it is focused on Instagram DM automation, so content creation and publishing would live in another tool.
5. Chatfuel: best for AI replies across channels
Chatfuel positions itself around an AI assistant. Its pricing page says the AI answers customers on Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook, and can reply to comments and DMs. Business S is US$18 per month billed yearly and includes US$20 in AI credits monthly. There is a free trial.
Best for: businesses that get many repeat questions and want AI answers on more than one messaging channel.
Things to consider: the page lists a one-time bot setup cost of about US$10 in the first month, and AI usage runs on credits, so estimate your message volume.
How to test an alternative
- Pick one post. Use a post or Reel that clearly asks people to comment a keyword, such as "Comment PRICE for the menu".
- Set one automation. Keyword, public reply, and a short DM with the link. Keep the message friendly and useful.
- Test from a second account. Comment once from an account that follows you and once from one that does not, and check both Inbox and Requests.
- Watch the numbers for a week. Compare comments, DMs sent and link clicks before you move every automation over.
When ManyChat is still the right choice
ManyChat makes sense when your DMs are a real sales channel and you need longer, multi-step conversations with branching paths. That is what a dedicated chat automation builder is made for. If you already have flows built and they work, switching mainly to save a little each month is rarely worth the rebuild. Check ManyChat's pricing page for the current plans and contact limits.
If you only need a handful of keyword automations, or the harder part is making posts that get comments in the first place, one of the alternatives above may be enough.

FAQ
What is the best free ManyChat alternative?
Inro, LinkDM and CreatorFlow all list free plans on their pricing pages, with monthly limits on contacts or DMs. Compare those limits with how many comments you expect.
Can any tool send more than one DM to someone who commented?
Meta allows one private reply to a commenter within 7 days. You can keep the conversation going only after the person responds, within the 24-hour messaging window.
Does Moonya replace ManyChat?
For straightforward comment-to-DM on Instagram and Facebook, often yes, and Moonya also creates and publishes your posts. If you rely on complex multi-step flows, ManyChat is the more specialized tool.
How many DM automations does Moonya include?
Starter includes 1 DM automation, Pro includes 10 and Agency up to 1,000.
Do these tools work for Facebook too?
Moonya supports comment-to-DM on Instagram and Facebook. LinkDM lists a Facebook auto-reply, and Chatfuel covers Facebook along with Instagram and WhatsApp. Check each pricing page for details.
Why did a commenter not see my automated DM?
If they do not follow you, Meta delivers the private reply to their message Requests folder instead of the main Inbox, so it is easy to miss.
