- Professional accounts can schedule Reels in the Instagram app up to 75 days ahead, up to 25 posts per day.
- Meta Business Suite schedules Reels and posts for Instagram and Facebook from a computer.
- Third-party schedulers publish through Meta's official API and are handy if you post to several networks.
- Before scheduling, check the cover, the first second, captions on screen, audio rights and the caption.
- Batch-create Reels once a week, schedule them, and leave time to reply to comments after they go live.
Before you schedule
- Use a professional account. Scheduling in the app is for professional (business or creator) accounts, according to Instagram's Help Center.
- Export vertical video. Reels are made for full-screen vertical viewing (9:16). Keep important text away from the bottom and edges, where buttons and the caption sit. Our image and video sizes page has the details.
- Know your audio. Trending sounds from the app's library may not be available when publishing from outside tools, and business accounts can have limited music options. Original voiceover or royalty-free music is the safest choice for scheduled Reels.
- Pick your times. Use Insights to see when followers are active, then test. See the best time to post on Instagram.
Option 1: schedule in the Instagram app
Free and built in. According to Instagram's Help Center, you can schedule posts and Reels up to 75 days in advance and up to 25 posts per day. The steps:
- Tap the create button and choose Reel.
- Select or record your video, add text, effects and audio.
- Write the caption, add up to 5 hashtags and tag people or a location.
- Tap Advanced settings, then Schedule (in some app versions the scheduling option appears on the final share screen).
- Choose the date and time, tap Done, then go back and schedule.
You will find scheduled content in your profile, where you can change the time or delete it before it goes live.
Best for: owners who edit Reels on their phone and only post to Instagram.
Option 2: Meta Business Suite
Meta Business Suite lets you save, schedule and reschedule posts from a computer or the mobile app, with a planner that shows what is scheduled. It is useful if you edit video on a laptop and want to schedule the same Reel to Instagram and your Facebook Page in one go.
- Open Business Suite and choose to create a Reel.
- Upload the video, select Instagram, Facebook or both.
- Write the caption and choose a cover.
- Choose to schedule and pick the date and time.
Best for: businesses that post the same Reel on Instagram and Facebook and work from a desktop.
Option 3: a third-party scheduler
Tools like Buffer, Later, Publer, Metricool and Moonya publish Reels through Meta's official API. Meta's content publishing documentation lists Reels among the media types approved apps can publish for professional accounts. A scheduler is worth it when you also post to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Facebook or LinkedIn and want one calendar, or when someone else prepares the Reels for your approval.
When choosing, check that the tool publishes Reels directly (not only a reminder to post yourself), lets you set a cover, and supports the other networks you use. Our comparison of schedulers for small business can help.
Pre-publish checklist
- First second. Does it show the payoff or ask a question right away? See 25 Reels hooks.
- Captions on screen. Many people watch without sound. Add readable captions.
- Cover. Choose a frame or cover image with a few words, so the Reel looks good in your grid.
- Caption. First line repeats the hook, then context, then one call to action. Up to 5 hashtags.
- Facts. Prices, dates and offers are correct on the date the Reel goes live, not only today.
- Rights. You have permission for every person, music track and clip in the video.
- Keyword ready. If the Reel says "comment BOOK", the comment-to-DM automation is on. See the DM automation guide.
Reels that work well when scheduled
Some Reels need to go out in the moment, like a live event. Many others are evergreen and perfect for scheduling ahead:
- Quick tips. One useful tip in 15 to 30 seconds, with captions.
- Process clips. A haircut, a latte, a repair or a workout from start to finish, sped up.
- Before and after. Real results with the client's consent.
- Answers to questions. "Do I need to book in advance?" answered in one Reel.
- Team and space. A short tour or a "meet the team" moment.
- Offer explainers. What a service includes and how to book. Double-check the offer is still valid on the publishing date.
Mix two or three of these each week and keep the timely ones (events, weather, news) for posting on the day.
If a scheduled Reel does not publish
- Check the connection. Changed your Instagram password or Facebook Page roles? Tools may need you to reconnect.
- Check the file. Very long, very large or unusual video formats can be rejected. Export a standard MP4 in vertical format.
- Check the audio. A track that is not available for your account can block or mute a Reel.
- Look for a notification. Instagram and most tools tell you when a scheduled post fails. Fix the issue and publish again.
A weekly Reels routine
A realistic routine for a busy owner:
- Monday, 30 minutes: pick two or three Reel ideas from customer questions, your services and what happened last week.
- During the week: capture short clips while you work. Ten seconds of real work is enough material.
- Friday, 45 minutes: edit or generate the Reels, write captions and schedule them for next week.
- After each Reel goes live: spend ten minutes replying to comments and DMs.

Scheduling Reels with Moonya
Moonya creates the Reel and schedules it. Video options include Reels from your own photos or clips (uploaded to its gallery), AI images with a voiceover, stock footage for your topic, a talking AI presenter for your offer, and animated videos. For most video types you first see the script, can edit it, and confirm before the video is rendered. Each finished video then waits in approval like any other post: approve, edit or skip.
Once approved, Moonya publishes to Instagram and, if you choose, to Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, with a caption fitted to each network and up to 5 hashtags on Instagram. You can schedule up to 30 days ahead, and posts on the same network are spaced at least 60 minutes apart, at most 3 per day per network. Video automations can create a Reel on a fixed schedule, such as every Thursday. Plans start at $29/month after a 7-day trial for $1; video uses credits by length and template. FAQ
Can you schedule Reels on Instagram?
Yes. Professional accounts can schedule Reels in the Instagram app up to 75 days ahead. You can also use Meta Business Suite or a third-party scheduler.
Why can't I see the schedule option for Reels?
Check that your account is a professional account and your app is up to date. The option sits under Advanced settings or on the final share screen, depending on the app version.
Can I schedule a Reel with trending audio?
Often only when posting from the Instagram app, and business accounts may have limited music options. For scheduled Reels from other tools, original voiceover or royalty-free music is safer.
Can I edit a scheduled Reel?
In the Instagram app you can change the scheduled time or delete it. To change the video itself, delete it and schedule a new one.
Do scheduled Reels get less reach?
Reels published through Instagram's own scheduler or Meta's official API are normal Reels. Reach depends on the content and the first seconds far more than on how it was posted.
Can I post the same Reel to TikTok and YouTube Shorts?
Yes, many businesses do. Use a scheduler that supports all three, remove watermarks, and adjust the caption for each network.
